Digilin & the Smart Home

The Smart Home is a real world experiment put together by EnergyAustralia and Sydney Water, using a house in the Sydney suburb of Newington as its lab and a "typical" Aussie family as its lab mice. It aims to showcase and test a number of latest technologies aimed to reduce a household's impact on the environment.

LED lighting forms an important part in reducing energy consumption in the house, and Digilin is proud to have had their ICON LED downlights selected for inclusion in the project. The lighting system (designed by Peter McLean of Lighting Art and Science) uses a combination of fluorescent and LED lighting that consumes less than a quarter of the energy it would if it were achieved using conventional low voltage downlights.

The Smart Home has been "online" since mid-July, and the chosen family have been blogging their experiences since.
